We jump aboard a catamaran on our second day in Skagway. We are off to the capital city of Alaska, Juneau. We are hardly away from the dock when our captain spots sea lions. We are off to the back of the boat for picture taking. This is the beginning to a trip full of unbelievable sea life viewing. We sight Orcas and Humpback whales, and dolphins after our first sighting of sea lions.
We travel on a waterway known as Lynn Canal. It is one of the prettiest Alaska marine highways. This is not a man-made canal, but the deepest fjord in North America. The route is lined with high mountains and topped with glaciers.
We pass the beautiful Elder Rock Lighthouse and the lighting is perfect for photos. In Juneau we get a bus tour of the city along with a drive pass the governor’s mansion and then are dropped downtown to explore the area on own and have lunch at one of the many restaurants. On our way back to the boat, we stop at Mendenhall Glacier for a visit. Then we head out for our return trip to Skagway.
